Understanding Bangladesh Seismic Plate Tectonics & Major Fault Lines
Bangladesh sits at the triple junction of three major tectonic plates: the Indian Plate, the Eurasian Plate, and the Burmese Microplate. The northern Dauki Fault along Sylhet and Mymensingh, together with the eastern Indo-Burma Megathrust running parallel to Chittagong Hill Tracts, represent active seismic hazards capable of producing major earthquakes (Mw > 7.5).
